Could Ghee Be Your Missing Magic Hot Drink Ingredient?

Using ghee in food can do wonders in bringing out its full flavour and providing you and your family with some delicious dishes. But could you extend its benefits from food to drink?

At first, it might seem odd to imagine putting the stuff you would normally have sizzling away in a frying pan in your coffee and tea, but many have tried it, love it and, just as importantly, are quick to point out the benefits beyond just the flavour.

DNA India has produced an article outlining the benefits of combining ghee with coffee. It suggested that when consumed “in moderation”, it can produce some “amazing health benefits”.

Among those it listed are a boosted immune system due to the vitamins and minerals provided; better digestion due to the butyric acid in ghee; increased energy and stamina; better cardiovascular function due to the cholesterol-lowering effects of ghee; better brain function; antioxidants to improve skin health and enhanced bone health.

Even if some of the benefits are marginal and others more substantial, the overall benefits of drinking ghee with coffee (which has so many health benefits of its own) suggest it is well worth a try.

The one objection some folk might raise is that they prefer tea to coffee. But fear not; it seems combining green tea with ghee has lots of benefits too, according to an article in the Times of India.

It stated that adding ghee and cinnamon to green tea provides a powerful combination of good fats, antioxidants and polyphenols that “fight oxidative stress and inflammation”, all of which work together to help your body burn fat more easily.

Ghee is singled out for its vitamin A, D, E and K content, butyrate (butyric acid), enhanced capacity to help absorb the nutrients of green tea and anti-inflammatory properties.

So, it seems, not only is ghee even more versatile than you might have imagined, but it can turn your favourite hot drink into one of the healthiest things you can consume.
