Curry… Perfect For Cosy Winter Nights!

The nights have started closing in around us now and winter is well on the way, so no doubt your thoughts are starting to turn towards cosy nights in with friends and family… and what better way to spend the winter than by cooking up a storm in the kitchen?

This time of year is a wonderful one for culinary pursuits and there’s no better way to really treat yourself and make you feel all wintry than by making some delicious hearty food to share around the table.

Of course, as well as all the ubiquitous stews, hotpots and pies that keep us full and happy at this time of year, curry really comes to the fore during winter time.

These spicy and nutritious dishes can really warm us from the inside out, as well as making the house smell absolutely amazing… and, even better, it’s really easy to double up on ingredients so you can stock the fridge and freezer and have amazing food without much effort over the next few weeks.

Spices can also help keep us nice and healthy during the winter months, with a growing body of research showing that some ingredients have anti-inflammatory effects, as well as being chock full of antioxidants, so they’re perfect for giving our immune systems some much-needed support as the temperature drops.

If you’re looking to stock your cupboards, go for the likes of ginger, garlic, cumin, turmeric, cardamom, star anise, saffron and fennel and you certainly won’t go wrong with your winter cooking this year.

Ginger in particular can help you if you’re struggling with coughs and colds, as well as helping ease any nausea you may be experiencing… ideal if you’re worried about feeling under the weather over the next few months.
