Happy Butter Mission Statement

Happy Butter endeavour to make delicious, British, organic ghee.

From the outset, the following three foundational values were, and continue to be adhered to 100% of the time. Without exception.

  • Only ever organic

  • Only ever UK sourced butter

  • Only ever made in small batches

Organic farming works in harmony with nature and the environment and does the least environmental harm, potentially enhances soil health and has the well-being of livestock as a priority. These values align with the founders of Happy Butter which is why all our raw materials in the production of our food products are certified organic.

In addition, Happy Butter strive to make positive environmental choices with production and packaging and have a work force that feel happy and supported and remunerated fairly and in line with the cost of living.

Happy Butter is committed to minimise its environmental impact through the wider choices made by the management team. Our commitment is to:

·      Reduce plastic use to as low as possible throughout the business. This includes not buying any plastic packaging materials. We have stopped plastic tape for packaging and now only use paper kraft tape. We do use a small amount of plastic pallet wrap that is biodegradable. We will sometimes recycle any plastic bubble wrap etc that we receive when goods are sent to us.

·      Use only glass or metal food contact packaging.

·      To use non-plastic card for outers and boxes

·      Sugarcane waste paper for labels

·      Send no waste to landfill. We send nothing to landfill. Our waste contractor sorts all our dry waste and then sends our small amount of food waste (milk solids) to a food bio-digestion waste plant that creates gas that is put into the gas network.

·      To use only Green gas for all cooking processes . All the gas we use for cooking comes from green sources. This is typically from facilities as above.

·      To migrate all vehicle used by the company to electric vehicles. We now have two electric vehicles on the fleet that we use for business and smaller local deliveries. We also have a diesel van that will be phased out soon, although it’s not used much.

·      Local businesses as stakeholders. Both in supply of raw materials and packaging and also as outlets selling our products. Happy Butter source boxes, labels, glass and organic butter from West Country companies.

Happy Butter welcome independent audit from SALSA, Soil Association, Small Green Business and now also Bcorp. The scrutiny of these institutions reassures us as a business that we are doing what we can in terms of the environment, food safety and as an employer. It also offers transparency to our customers so that they too can make informed choices when buying our products.
